History of the Train

Debut: 1999 (Ueno – Sapporo route)

Formation: 12 cars total (10 sleeping cars, 1 dining car, 1 lounge car)

Features: Fully double-deck, all private compartments, pioneer of “cruise train” style

2016: Regular service ended after the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen; operated as a tour train thereafter

June 2025: Retired due to aging and other factors

Car No. 1 with an observation room suite will be preserved and displayed
