Eleven major railway companies in the Greater Tokyo area will begin offering integrated postpaid travel services using contactless credit card payments starting in spring 2026 or later. This new system will allow seamless travel across multiple railway operators using a single contactless payment method.
Overview
With this service, passengers can simply tap a contactless-enabled credit card or a smartphone linked to such a card at the ticket gates without purchasing a paper ticket in advance. The fare will be charged automatically after the trip. From spring 2026, this postpaid contactless service will be interoperable across all participating railway operators, enabling smooth transfers between lines.
