Overview of the Malfunction

Date of malfunction: Investigation and announcement on June 25

Cause (under investigation):

The auxiliary power unit on the E8 series train failed.

As a result, power supply to the main converter was cut, causing the cooling system to shut down.

Circuit protection activated, making the motor inoperable and rendering the train unable to run.

Damage to semiconductor components was confirmed in 1 out of 6 auxiliary power units.

The cause of the damage has not yet been identified.

"Tsubasa" trains running through to Tokyo:
Only one round-trip between Tokyo and Shinjo is operating:-
No. 121: Departs Tokyo at 6:12 → Arrives at Shinjo at 9:55

No. 156: Departs Shinjo at 17:12 → Arrives at Tokyo at 20:48

Other trains:

Operations between Tokyo and Fukushima are suspended, and direct services are canceled.

In general, "Tsubasa" trains operate only north of Fukushima.

Some trains are fully suspended, while others only run between Yamagata and Shinjo, depending on the day.

Future Plans

From June 26 to 30, the same operation plan will continue. However, suspended trains and operating sections may vary daily.

Service plans from July 1 onward are scheduled to be announced around June 27.
