The period during which all seats on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen 'Nozomi' bullet trains will be designated as reserved seats in fiscal 2025.

Overview of All-Reserved Seat Operations

Objective
To allow more passengers to secure seats during peak travel periods, all "Nozomi" trains will operate with reserved seating only by converting the non-reserved seats into reserved seats.

Operation Periods

  • Golden Week: April 25, 2025 (Friday) – May 6, 2025 (Tuesday)
  • Obon: August 8, 2025 (Friday) – August 17, 2025 (Sunday)
  • New Year Holidays: December 26, 2025 (Friday) – January 4, 2026 (Sunday)

Applicable Sections and Trains

  • Sections: Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (Tokyo to Hakata)
  • Trains: All "Nozomi" trains

Reservation and Usage

  • Reservations:
    • Passengers can reserve seats up to 1 year in advance via "Express Reservation" or "Smart EX."
    • Some seats or products may be limited to reservations up to 1 year in advance.
  • Usage Restrictions:
    • Passengers with non-reserved limited express tickets cannot use seats on "Nozomi" trains.
    • Non-reserved seating is still available on other trains such as "Hikari," "Kodama," "Mizuho," and "Sakura."
    • Passengers with non-reserved tickets may stand in ordinary car decks on "Nozomi" trains. An additional fee is required to use reserved seats.

Notes

  • For Non-Reserved Ticket Holders:
    • Passengers with non-reserved tickets boarding "Nozomi" trains may stand in decks or other standing areas.
    • Passengers must follow staff instructions to ensure train safety.
  • In Case of Transport Disruptions:
    • In the event of significant transportation disruptions, "Nozomi" trains may temporarily operate as all non-reserved seating (excluding Green Cars).
