Osaka Metro Chūō Line GOA2.5 Automatic Operation Demonstration Experiment

Osaka Metro will conduct a GOA2.5 demonstration experiment using the new 400 series trains from February to March 2025.

Objectives of the Demonstration

  • Address workforce challenges (mitigating the impact of declining working-age population and labor shortages).
  • Reduce the burden on train operators (adapting to increasingly complex railway systems).
  • Ensure safe and stable transportation.
  • Improve convenience through more diverse timetables.

What is GOA2.5?

GOA2.5 is an automatic train operation level, where a crew member (equivalent to a conductor) without a driver's license for powered vehicles is assigned to the lead car.

Test Section

  • Chūō Line: Between Yumeshima and Osaka Port (conducted after regular service hours).

Testing Details

  • Verification of GOA2.5 system functionality on the 400 series.
  • Evaluation of emergency response operations.
  • Testing under various operating conditions.
  • Data collection for future implementation.
