Tobu Railway has announced the introduction of the new 90000 series trains on the Tojo Line starting in 2026.

Overview of the 90000 Series

  • Train type: 90000 series

  • Number of units (planned): 7 trainsets (70 cars)

  • Introduction period: Gradually introduced from 2026 onward

Train Concept

Developed under the concept of "Connecting Communities, People, and the Future – Watashibune", inspired by the history of river transport along the Arakawa and Shingashigawa rivers near the Tojo Line. This aligns with Tobu Railway's business plan of creating a society where "People and Communities Shine Together with Kindness."

Design

Exterior

  • Features a reverse slant front shape inspired by the hull of a traditional Takasebune boat.

  • A uniquely curved design rising from the bottom front section, creating a distinctive and memorable look.

Interior

  • Incorporates river transport-inspired design elements.

  • Uses Tatewaku (rising steam) patterns on partition panels and Karesansui (dry landscape garden) motifs on the flooring.

  • A simple and timeless color scheme to create a calm and elegant atmosphere.

  • Glass partitions at doorways and side panel areas, enhancing spaciousness and openness.

  • Enlarged door windows, extending lower toward the floor compared to previous models, for a brighter and more open cabin environment.

 Environmental Sustainability Initiatives

The 90000 series is equipped with the latest energy-saving technology to significantly reduce power consumption.

  • Full-SiC VVVF inverter control system

  • High-efficiency induction motors (IM)

  • LED lighting

Compared to the 9000 series, the new 90000 series will reduce power consumption by over 40%, making it an eco-friendly and sustainable railway option.

Conclusion

The 90000 series is a next-generation train that integrates safety, comfort, stylish design, and environmental performance. It embraces the rich cultural heritage of river transport while incorporating the latest technology, making it an exciting and modern addition to the Tojo Line!
