1. Increased Service for Tokyo-Kansai "Nozomi" Trains
- Early Morning Additions:
- One additional Nozomi train will run from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka in the 6 a.m. hour, including temporary trains such as the Nozomi 99 departing from Shinagawa and the Nozomi 497 departing from Shin-Yokohama.
- This brings the total number of Nozomi departures from the Tokyo metropolitan area in the 6 a.m. hour to a maximum of 14 trains.
- These services will operate on high-demand days, including weekends during the Osaka-Kansai Expo.
- Late-Night Service Improvements:
- A new Nozomi departing from Tokyo at 21:30 to Shin-Osaka will be added, allowing extended evening stays in the Tokyo area and enhanced connectivity to Kansai.
2. Expanded "Nozomi" Direct Connections with the Sanyo Shinkansen
- Outbound Trains (Tokyo to West Japan):
- One additional direct Nozomi train connecting to the Sanyo Shinkansen will depart Tokyo at 7:54 a.m. and 8:54 a.m..
- Inbound Trains (West Japan to Tokyo):
- One additional direct Nozomi train will arrive at Tokyo at 6:21 p.m. and 7:21 p.m..
- Increased Frequency:
- The maximum number of regular Nozomi trains per hour will rise from 7 trains/hour to 8 trains/hour.
3. Later Departure for the Final "Nozomi" to Hakata
- Schedule Adjustment:
- The Nozomi departing Tokyo at 19:00 to Shin-Osaka will be extended to Hakata as a temporary Nozomi.
- This change pushes the last departure for Hakata to 19:09, providing more time for passengers in Tokyo.
4. Service Enhancements for Train Cars
- More Reserved Seats in Ordinary Cars:
- Car 3 will be converted from non-reserved seating to reserved seating on all Nozomi services for both the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines.
- This change increases the number of reserved ordinary seats by 85 seats per train.
- Introduction of Women-Only Restrooms:
- In 16-car trains, one of the two shared restrooms in odd-numbered cars (except Car 11) will be converted into women-only restrooms.
- Rollout begins in December 2024, with approximately half of the restrooms in 16-car trains becoming women-only after the timetable revision.
